Details of the BUDI MADANI Diesel Program
PUTRAJAYA, June 22 (BERNAMA) -- The government has set a basic eligibility limit of up to 200 liters per month for individuals eligible under the BUDI MADANI Diesel (BUDI Diesel) program. Deputy Finance Minister Datuk Seri Amir Hamzah Azizan said this quota can be used flexibly for purchasing subsidized diesel or RON95. According to him, this approach ensures subsidies are given to eligible recipients based on actual usage, regardless of whether the fuel used is diesel or RON95. This gives recipients flexibility in managing their monthly fuel usage.
Additional Quota for Selected Vehicles
In a press conference today, Amir Hamzah explained that private diesel vehicle owners such as pick-up trucks and jeeps who are eligible can apply for an additional 100 liters per month, making the total amount up to 300 liters per month for this category. "This is expected to be sufficient as it is estimated that 95 percent of diesel users consume less than 300 liters per month," he said. Also present were Minister of Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs, Datuk Armizan Mohd Ali, and Chief Secretary to the Treasury, Tan Sri Johan Mahmood Merican.
Amir Hamzah said the additional allowance is to support additional needs, especially for micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) and those traveling from rural areas. He added that diesel vehicle owners registered with the Road Transport Department (JPJ) with valid road tax will automatically receive the basic 200-liter quota without needing to register.
Checking and Application Process
This quota can be used to purchase subsidized diesel at RM2.10 per liter starting next month. Private diesel vehicle owners can check their eligibility status and monthly limit online through the official BUDI MADANI portal at www.budimadani.gov.my starting today. Eligible pick-up truck and jeep owners can also apply for an additional 100 liters per month through the same portal.
In addition to private diesel vehicle owners, access to subsidized diesel at RM2.10 per liter through MyKad has also been extended to river boat operators and generator owners in rural areas. "In this regard, the federal government is closely cooperating with the Sabah and Sarawak state governments to ensure inclusive diesel subsidy protection for the people," said Amir Hamzah.
Implementation and Supply Assurance
Amir Hamzah said there are no new infrastructure costs for implementing BUDI Diesel because all oil stations that have implemented BUDI RON95 can continue using the existing system. He said only software adjustments are needed to allow users to choose between diesel and petrol.
In other developments, Amir Hamzah said the country's fuel supply remains sufficient due to continuous cooperation with Petronas and oil companies to ensure domestic needs are not disrupted. He said the 'rolling' purchase approach ensures the country does not face the risk of fuel shortages in the short term. "This ensures we do not need to worry that fuel will only last until August. Oil companies continuously buy for the next two months and extend further two months," he said. He added that the government continues to cooperate with industry players to diversify the country's fuel supply sources.
The BUDI MADANI Diesel program is a government initiative to target diesel subsidies to those who truly need them, in line with broader efforts to rationalize subsidies. With this implementation, the government expects annual savings of RM2 billion, as previously announced.
