According to Proton's Chief Executive Officer, Datuk Seri Syed Faisal Albar, this success was driven by the launch of new models and an aggressive market development strategy. "We have successfully entered new markets in Africa and South America, along with satisfactory demand for the X50 and Saga models in the domestic market. This is the result of close cooperation with our partners," he said at a press conference in Shah Alam today.
Top Selling Models
Among the models contributing to this sales record are:
- Proton X50 โ sold 45,000 units (37.5% of total sales)
- Proton Saga โ 35,000 units (29.2%)
- Proton Persona โ 20,000 units (16.7%)
- Export Models โ 20,000 units (16.7%)
Export sales increased by 50%, with the largest markets being Pakistan, Bangladesh, and Egypt. Proton also signed new distribution agreements with companies in Nigeria and Chile, which are expected to further boost sales in the second half of this year.
"We are optimistic that this trend will continue. With government support and increasing global demand, Proton is on the right track to achieve its target of 250,000 units per year by 2027," said Datuk Seri Syed Faisal.
Impact on the National Automotive Industry
This achievement has also had a positive impact on Malaysia's automotive industry. Minister of Investment, Trade and Industry, Tengku Datuk Seri Zafrul Aziz, in his statement praised Proton's performance as evidence of the capability of local manufacturers to compete globally. He said, "This success shows that Malaysian brands can win the hearts of international users. It also opens up more job opportunities and technological development within the country."
With the outstanding sales record until June 2026, Proton is now attracting foreign investors. Proton's shares on the Malaysia Stock Exchange jumped 12% over two days after the announcement, reflecting market confidence in the company's direction.
